Jewell Loyd is an American professional basketball player who presently plays for two teams: Perfumerias Avenida in the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto in Spain and the Seattle Storm in the Women’s National Basketball Association.
After playing collegiate basketball at Notre Dame, she was taken first overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2015 WNBA draft.
Loyd started as a point guard but was forced to transition to shooting guard due to the presence of seasoned point guard Sue Bird on the Storm team.
However, when Bird was unable to participate in the final seven games of the regular season, Loyd stepped up and took over as the starting point guard.
In the 2017 season, Loyd’s offensive abilities continued to advance as she set a new career-high of 33 points in a game against the Phoenix Mercury and finished the year with an average of 17.7 points per game.
Despite this, Loyd scored 17 points in the Storm’s loss against the Phoenix Mercury, which led to their 15-19 record and first-round playoff elimination.
