Jesus Christ Superstar Songs In Order With Lyrics

Songs from Jesus Christ superstar musical are split into two Acts. Each Act is made up of 12 songs.

Created by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice the opera shares the story of the gospel through its music. They made the Broadway show while interpreting the psychology of the characters in the gospel.

Act I

Act I showcases Judas and his worries about the Roman Empire and the actions of Jesus and his apostles. The events of this act lead to Jesus’s arrest.

The following songs are part of Act One:

• Overture
• Heaven on Their Minds
• What’s The Buzz/Strange Thing, Mystifying
• Everything’s Alright
• This Jesus Must Die
• Hosanna
• Simon Zealotes/Poor Jerusalem
• Jesus and Company
• Pilate’s Dream
• The Temple
• Everything’s Alright (Reprise)
• I Don’t Know How to Live Him
• Dammned for All Time/Blood Money

This Jesus Must Die

This Jesus Must Die is about the Jewish priests and their plotting to arrest the Messiah.

It is a musical ensemble choreographed with dramatic performances of the characters alongside the theme of rock and roll.

Similarly, the performers carry the story in a Broadway show with a musical and dramatic performance that depicts the event that occurred between Jesus and his conspirers.

Pilate’s Dream

Pilate’s Dream tells the story of Pontius Pilate and his dream related to the trial of Jesus.

The dream sequence portrays the coming of evil and the guilt Pontius feels. The musical manages to tell a dynamic story by interpreting the psychology and characterization of Pontius and his wife in accordance with his anticipation.

Act II

Act II tells the tale of the betrayal faced by Jesus and his subsequent crucifixion.

It also showcases the struggles and punishment of Jesus which led to the salvation of mankind.

The songs of Act Two are as follows:

• The Last Supper
• Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say)
• The Arrest
• Peter’s Denial
• Pilate and Christ
• King Herod’s Song
• Could We Start Again Please?
• Judas’ Death
• Trial Before Pilate
• Superstar
• The Crucifixion
• John Nineteen: Forty-One

The Last Supper

The Last Supper is Jesus’s last meal with his apostles before his crucifixion.

The event is also celebrated by the Christians as Holy Thursday.

Jesus breaks bread, and shares stories, and wine with his apostles.

With the impending betrayal and crucifixion that is likely to occur after the completion of the meal looming large in the background.

Jesus Christ Superstar Overture lyrics are non-existent as it is an instrumental piece. Overtures are how most operas start.

The piece is famous for its bombastic bass solo which is quite unforgettable. It also has a similar tune to a later song called Trial Before Pilate which happens at the end of Act II.

The introduction of the musical showcases the props, people, and rise of Jesus Christ from the pile of people in the performance of the troupe. Thus, Overture is nothing more than the beginning of the musical providing some insight into the show.

Jesus Christ Superstar could be watched for free on Youtube. The troupe often uploads their performances after the end of a tour.

Similarly, other streaming sites like Spotify do seem to provide similar options to listen to the performances. Other options include live shows and charity events done for the parishioners of a church.

There are fewer options to watch Jesus Christ Superstar for free, but the Broadway show does seem to conduct charity events and perform shows in the church and other venues.

Moreover, the concert also offers affordable seats for customers who are not interested or cannot pay costly prices. However, there are also options for luxurious seating for comfortable viewing of the show.
