Jessie Bates III was born on February 26, 1997, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States. He attended Snider High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he played both football and basketball.
Jessie Bates played college football at Wake Forest after he made his commitment to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in February 2015. After the 2016 season, he was named to the USA Today Freshman All-America Team, the All-ACC Second-Team, and to the ACC All-Freshman First-Team.
