Jerry Wayne Jones Sr. commonly known as Jerry Jones was born on October 13, 1942 to JW “Pat” Jones (his father) who owned an insurance company. Jerry grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where his father owned two branches of Pat’s Supermarket in the Rose neighborhood of North Little Rock. His zodiac sign is Libra and he is of American nationality.

After graduating from college in 1965, Jerry joined Modern Security Life of Springfield, his father’s insurance company. He worked for the insurance company in his capacity as administrative vice-president. It is important to note that in 1970, Jerry earned his Masters in Business Administration. Even when he had the opportunity to buy the AFL San Diego Chargers team, he declined the offer so he could complete his education.

After his master’s degree, he engaged in several unproductive business ventures, but was undeterred by the many failures he encountered, and eventually he began investing in oil and gas through of an oil and gas exploration company in Arkansas called Jones Oil and Land Lease.

His foray into oil and gas finally succeeded in surpassing his wildest imagination. His huge success with Jones Oil and Land Lease allowed him to buy the Cowboys on February 25, 1989 for $140 million. After successfully acquiring the football team from HR “Bum” Bright, he made sweeping changes, including firing the only coach in Cowboy team history, Tom Landry, and installing his former teammate Jimmy Johnson in his place.

Jerry also fired Tex Schramm who was the team’s long-time general manager and takes personal responsibility for football matters. The management of the Cowboys, led by Jerry and Johnson, was very rough, especially at first, but Jerry eventually managed to build a team that is still considered to be the NFL’s favorite franchise in the 1990s.
