Jeffrey Dahmer – Biography, Victim, Death and Cause of Death

Jeffrey Dahmer was a convicted serial killer who had seventeen male victims between 1978 and 1991. In 1994 he was killed in prison. This truly disturbed man has a story to learn, if only as a warning of how monsters can hide in public. Below we look at details about Jeffrey Dahmer’s life as a criminal and murderer and how he ended up dead.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s biography

Jeffrey Dahmer was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 21, 1960. His parents were Lionel and Joyce Dahmer and young Jeffrey Dahmer was considered quite a happy child in his earlier days on earth. When he was only 4 years old he underwent surgery to correct a double hernia and this surgery is said to have caused a change in the young child. After the operation he was more level-headed and when the family welcomed another child – his younger brother – he became even more withdrawn.

The family also moved quite frequently, and this should add to the reasons that made Jeffrey Dahmer tense, relaxed, and friendless as a teenager. He had claimed that his tendencies to necrophilia and murder began when he was fourteen. It has also been said that it was his parents’ separation and divorce a few years later that really steered these tendencies towards actions where they had previously remained at the level of thought.

Jeffrey Dahmer went to Ohio State University but dropped out after only a quarter of a term. His drinking was out of control by this time and his father had insisted he join the army. He therefore joined in December 1978 and was sent to Germany. The Army did not help with his drinking problem and he was discharged in early 1981. A number of murders occurred in the area during his military service, but these were never linked to him, despite investigations by German authorities.

After his release, he returned to Ohio and was arrested that year for disorderly conduct. This prompted his father to send him to live with his grandmother in Wisconsin. He never shook off his drinking problem there and was arrested again for indecent exposure when two boys claimed he masturbated in front of them, earning him a year’s suspended sentence. His grandmother forced him to move out of her house in 1988 because she was tired of his drunkenness and late nights. Little did she know her grandson was involved in much more deadly activities.

The victims

The first Jeffrey Dahmer murder went right. His victim was a man named Stephen Hicks whom he hitchhiked during Hicks. He had carried Hicks to his parents’ house, where he had gotten him drunk and when he tried to leave, Jeffrey Dahmer hit him over the head and strangled him with a barbell. He then dismembered the body, packed his body parts in plastic bags and buried the parts in the back of his parents’ house. He would later dig up Hicks’ remains, crush his bones with a sledgehammer, and scatter them in a wooden ravine.

His second victim was Steven Tuomi, whom he killed in September 1987. The two had checked into a hotel room and began drinking. In this case, there was no knowing how Tuomi died because Jeffrey Dahmer said he woke up with no memory of the previous night’s activities, even though Tuomi lay dead beside him. He transported his victim’s body to his grandmother’s basement in a large suitcase, and then dismembered and masturbated on the corpse before disposing of the remains for good.

In September 1989, Jeffrey Dahmer was nearly charged again with second-degree sexual exploitation and sexual assault after an encounter with a thirteen-year-old. He had claimed the boy was much older while pleading guilty. While awaiting the end of his sentence, he killed, photographed and dismembered an aspiring model named Anthony Sears in his grandmother’s basement. His defense in the child molestation case ended with a one-year prison sentence that allowed him to work days and return to jail at night, along with a five-year suspended sentence.

In the two years thereafter, Jeffrey Dahmer continued to kill, wracking a victim count of seventeen. He experimented with killing and began developing rituals, sometimes even eating his victims’ flesh or lobotomizing them. He went unnoticed for so long because he chose victims who were themselves practically criminals or didn’t have much family to look for.

Jeffrey Dahmer was eventually arrested on the 22nd. July 1991 after police officers picked up a 32-year-old man walking around with handcuffs on his wrists. They investigated the man’s claims that he was drugged and restrained by a “strange guy”. They went to Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment and he had readily offered to get the keys to the handcuffs. The victim had also directed police in the direction of Jeffrey Dahmer’s room, where he claimed the knife Dahmer threatened his life with was. In Dahmer’s bedroom, officers had found Jeffrey Dahmer’s photo collection of dismembered bodies. You would also find a total of four heads in his freezer and fridge and many other horrible things around the house.

On February 15, 1992, the jury found Jeffrey Dahmer guilty on all counts but reasonable and sentenced him to 15 consecutive life sentences.

death and cause of death

Jeffrey Dahmer was initially well kept away from the general population at the prison, but he soon convinced authorities to let him mix with the other inmates. He was also included in regular work details. On November 28, 1994, Jeffrey Dahmer was hired to work with Jesse Anderson and Christopher Scarver, two other convicted murderers. They were left alone to do their chores by a guard, and the guard returned to find that Christopher Scarver had beaten both men who worked with him with a metal bar that had been located in the prison’s weight room.

The beating had been quite fatal, and JeffreyDahmer was dead in about an hour. When Scarver later told the New York Post why he had killed Jeffrey Dahmer, he pointed to a habit Dahmer had developed of using his food to create severed limbs to annoy other inmates. Scarver also claimed to have been disturbed by his crimes and confronted him about them before beating the two men to death. He also claimed that the prison guards had complied with the murders by leaving them alone.
