Jeffrey Family Details Amid January 6 Investigations
Jeffrey Clark served as the Justice Department’s chief of environment law under the Trump administration. And in December 2020, he was promoted to associate attorney general for the civil division of the department.
According to CNN, he assisted Trump in creating a strategy to remove then-acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen, take control of the agency, and have the DOJ interfere in Georgia’s election to tilt the state in Trump’s favor.
Rosen, his then-deputy Richard Donoghue, and the head of the Office of Legal Counsel Steven Engel all threatened to leave in protest at a contentious meeting in the Oval Office on January 3, 2021. As a result, Trump finally decided against appointing Clark as attorney general.
This incident happened days before January 6, U.S. Capitol riot. Rosen, Donoghue, and Engel are all testifying in the Thursday hearing.
