Born as Jeffrey Jampol in Los Angeles, California. He came into the world on September 16, 1959. Although information about his mother is unknown, Richard Jampol, a real estate agent and architect, is his father. It is unclear if Jeffery grew up with his father, as he described his childhood as very lonely with no male peers or figures around him.
According to him, he started listening to rock and roll music when he was 6/7 years old and the sound and lyrics really resonated with him. He fell in love with music at this tender age and there was no turning back for him.
Jeff went to “The School of Hard Knocks” and went on to Hutchins School of Liberal Studies at Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, California, where he earned a degree in Media Studies.
He soon started working in the music industry. Its main priority was the protection of the artists’ legacy. He also produced films and documentaries early in his career, which made him a force of choice in the production field. In 2011, he won a Grammy for “Best Motion Picture Musical” for his work in the documentary The Doors: When You’re Strange (2009). He co-produced the musical Une nuit pour Janis Joplin which premiered in 2011. In 2019 he worked on a theatrical documentary for Janis Joplin.
He has worked with popular record labels in the music industry like Atlantic, Columbia, and WEA Records. Jeff currently works at the University of California as an Adjunct Professor, a position he has held from 1997 to present.
