Jeff Bezos is an American business magnate, media proprietor and investor. He was born on January 12, 1964, to Jacklyn and Theodore Jorgensen. He is the CEO and founder of the multinational company, Amazon.
Jeff Bezos attended Miami Palmetto High School and then attended the Student Science Traning program at the University of Florida. In Florida, he was the Valedictorian, a National Merit Scholar and a silver Knight Award winner in 1982. In 1986, he graduated from Princeton University with a 4.2 GPA and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree and computer science.
Jeff worked at Fitel, a fintech telecommunications start-up, where he was tasked with building a network for international trade. Bezos was promoted to head of development and director of customer service thereafter. He transitioned into the banking industry when he became a product manager at Bankers Trust.
Bezos drew up the Amazon business plan on a road trip from New York to Seattle. In 1993, he left his job at D.E. Shaw to start Amazon from his garage. He received an estimated $300,000 to invest in Amazon from his parents. He originally titled the company Cadabra but changed it to name it after the Amazon River. Bezos warned early investors that there was a 70% chance that it would fail.
