Did Jean Louis Trintignant Die From An Illness?

In a statement sent by his agency, his wife Mariane Hoepfner Trintignant announced that Jean Louis Trintignant died “peacefully, of old age, this morning at home in the Gard, surrounded by his loved ones.”

Trintignant said in 2018 that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and that he will not pursue treatment. In November 2021, it was reported that he was losing his sight and his health was deteriorating.

Mr. Trintignant appeared in films by Krzysztof Kieslowski, Costa-Gavras, and Bernardo Bertolucci, including Three Colors: Red, Z, and The Conformist. His life, however, was marred by two tragedies.

Pauline, his second daughter, died at the age of nine months from sudden infant death syndrome. In 2003, his eldest daughter Marie was murdered by rock star Bertrand Cantat.

Trintignant was born and raised in the world of motor racing, so he was an obvious choice for the leading part of a racecar driver in Claude Lelouch’s 1966 film A Man and a Woman. In June 2007, he was involved in a motorcycle accident and suffered a leg injury.
