Jean Faut, a founder of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, passed away on Tuesday.
In addition to being a four-time All-Star and two-time Player of the Year winner, Faut was the only professional pitcher to throw two perfect games in her career.
The most well-known player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), Jean Faut, was born and reared in East Greenville, Pennsylvania. She was the second oldest of six siblings and was raised in a working-class home during the Great Depression.
Her father, Robert Faut, worked at an auto firm and was a park guard, while her mother, Eva, stayed at home.
The value of practicing frugal living, conserving money, and eliminating debt was something that Faut’s parents stressed to their children.
Faut was a talented athlete in high school, excelling in track and field, basketball, and field hockey despite not having played softball as a child.
She also participated in exhibition games against the East Greenville Cubs, a semi-pro baseball team from her hometown, and pitched batting practice for the school’s baseball team.
She learned how to throw many pitches from this experience, a skill that would later be useful to her in her professional baseball career.

Yes, the famous baseball player Jean Faut married Karl Winsch, a former pitcher who formerly played for the Philadelphia Phillies and was from the same town as Faut, East Greenville.
After getting married, the pair made the decision to make South Bend, Indiana their home. Faut worked for Ball-Band, a regional affiliate of the United States Rubber Company, during the off-season.
