The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League founder Jean Faut passed away on Tuesday.
The only professional pitcher to throw two perfect games in her career was Faut, who was also a four-time All-Star and two-time Player of the Year winner.
In the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL), Jean Faut is the most well-known player. She was raised in East Greenville, Pennsylvania. She was raised in a working-class home during the Great Depression as the second oldest of six siblings.
While her mother, Eva, stayed at home, her father, Robert Faut, worked at an auto company and was a park guard.
Faut’s parents instilled in their kids the importance of practicing frugal living, saving money, and paying off debt.
Despite not having played softball as a kid, Faut was a gifted athlete in high school, dominating in field hockey, basketball, and track and field.
She also pitched batting practice for the school’s baseball team and took part in exhibition games against the East Greenville Cubs, a semi-pro baseball team from her hometown.
This experience taught her how to throw a lot of pitches, a technique that would later help her in her professional baseball career.
