Newark man Jayshawn Boyd’s assault video is viral on social media. The footage shows the inmates brutally beating him at the Essex county jail.

Jayshawn Boyd was a victim of the severe rampage that the inmates inflicted upon him. He was also a convicted felon with a history of mental health issues.

On 23 September, Boyd was initially rushed to the University Hospital. The reason was not clear until the video of his assault surfaced on social media.

Jayshawn was tortured by his cellmates. They ganged up on him and beat him until he lay unconscious on the ground. However, their brutality did not end here.

Next, they hit Boyd with the things like microwave, push broom, trash can, and everything that they found. An officer witnessed the assault and notified the floor control.

After that, Jayshawn was taken to the hospital where he went into a coma. He remained in a vegetative state and died nearly after a month of battling for his life.

Prisoner Jayshawn Boyd’s video is creating a buzz all over social media.

The footage is extracted from the CCTV surveillance of Essex County Correctional Facility. It is more than 2 minutes long and contains violent graphics.

In the video, Boyd tried to escape from the grasp of his cellmates. However, they gathered together and started beating him up until he lost his senses.

Next, they hit Boyd with everything that they found. They bashed his head with microwave, deck brush, beverage dispenser, and other heavy items.

An officer witnessed the riot and called the controlling department. However, it is unknown how much time did they take to end the fight and take Jayshawn to the hospital.

After the video was leaked to the public, they are enraged by the supervision of Essex County jail. Also, they are raising a voice to provide Boyd justice.  

Who Did Jayshawn Boyd Assault? His Arrest Charges Explained

As per NJ, Jayshawn Boyd was arrested on charges of 2 separate altercations with his family.

One of the fights included the involvement of a kitchen knife. He was initially transferred from Essex County jail to a psychiatric hospital, Ann Klein.

Later on, Jayshawn was released from the mental facility. He was about to plead for criminal mischief and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Boyd failed to appear at his sentencing and was detained on a bench warrant. Following that, he was again sent to the Essex County prison.

As per Jayshawn’s attorney, the authorities put him in a dangerous unit inside the jail.  She also mentioned that he suffered from schizophrenia and delusions.

Jayshawn Boyd was aged 22 years only.

He passed away at a young age following the brutal attack from other inmates. He died nearly a month after he slipped into a coma.

Since Boyd was delusional and had mental health issues, he was in an altercation with his family members. 

Despite that, his family loved him a lot. As of now, they are devastated by his death and have filed a tort claim after the inmates who struck him.

Who Attacked Jayshawn Boyd? 

Jayshawn Boyd was attacked by seven enraged inmates at Essex County Correctional Facility.

The reason behind the fight is unknown. But all of them ganged up against him and struck him brutally.

Boyd was boxed by Byad Lockett, Darryl Watson, Isaad Jackson, Tyshon Armour, Henry Asencio, Jaquil Anderson, and Maurice Hutchins.

Among them, Lockett and Watson faced charges related to homicide as they hit him with heavy objects on his head.
