Jaylen Watson, a cornerback with the National Football League’s Kansas City Chiefs, was born on September 17, 1998. (NFL). Prior to joining the Washington State Cougars, he played collegiate football for Ventura College. At the 2022 NFL Draft, the Chiefs selected him in the seventh round.
Watson attended Ventura College for his first two years of college. He had 43 tackles as a sophomore, 13 pass breakups, four interceptions, and one fumble recovery. Watson initially committed to transferring to USC but did not meet the academic requirements to enroll. He did not play in 2019 and returned to Augusta to work at Wendy’s restaurant managed by his mother while also finishing his coursework. Watson later signed a transfer agreement to play for Washington State.
Watson was named honorable mention All-Pac-12 Conference after recording 13 tackles, two passes were broken up, a forced fumble, and one recovered fumble in three games during the team’s COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. In his final year, he was named honorable mention All-Pac 12.
