James’ girlfriend Rainey Gaffin earned her high school education at Legacy High School in Broomfield, Colorado.
After completing high school, Gaffin proceeded to the University of Tennessee to play collegiate softball and also to pursue a degree in Psychology.
During her freshman season, Gaffin played in 57 games which she started 38. She got a .290 hit (27-for-93) with three homers, six doubles, two triples, 24 RBIs, 19 runs, 23 walks, and three stolen bases. And also recorded six multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games.
After passing through her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, Gaffin accumulated several accolades to her credit including NFCA Division I All-American (2016), NFCA Division I All-Southeast Region (1st Team 2016), Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete -(2016), All-SEC (2nd Team 2016), SEC All-Defensive Team (2016), USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 “Watch List” (2016), Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week (4/12/16) and more.
