Jason Jenkins, the Dolphins’ senior vice president of communications and community affairs has died. He died suddenly in the hours before Miami’s Saturday (August 27) game against the Eagles, the team announced. He was 47.
Jenkins was known as “the longtime right-hand man to Dolphins owner Stephen Ross” and the face of the Dolphins’ outreach efforts in the South Florida community.
He began working for the team in 2009 and reached his current position in 2015, where he became a constant presence in Dolphins community events.
Jenkins’ impact was tremendous as he oversaw media outreach for Hard Rock Stadium and Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix.
For his efforts, he was awarded a Corporate Pillar Award by Miami-Dade County’s Black Affairs Advisory Council.
He was also a board member of the Anti-Defamation League of Florida, Breakthrough Miami, Dolphins Challenge Cancer, Pro Sports Assembly, Urban League of Broward County, Women of Tomorrow and YMCA Miami.
Dolphins owner Stephen Ross issued a statement mourning his loss:
Jenkins joined the Dolphins in 2009, after spending nearly seven years working with the San Francisco 49ers.
He also worked at Texas Southern, Lehigh and Texas Tech — his alma mater.
Jenkins is survived by his wife Elizabeth and three children.
