Jason Arno, 37, has been named as the Buffalo firefighter who died on Wednesday while battling a fire in the city’s downtown, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced in a tweet on Thursday.
According to the Buffalo Fire Department, Arno perished while battling a four-alarm fire that started in a three-story building on Main Street at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Although Renaldo warned that it would not be unexpected if certain places were still smoking, the big fire was eventually put out.
According to the mayor, the building’s remnants were judged hazardous and an urgent demolition was mandated. Renaldo noted that the demolition might be finished as early as Wednesday night.
Brown issued an order for all city buildings to fly their flags at half-staff in memory of the fallen fireman. The firefighter’s family had a meeting with the mayor and Renaldo, the mayor announced on Wednesday night.
Flags on county-owned facilities are now flying at half-staff, per order from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
The family of the Buffalo firefighter who died today while performing his or her duties, as well as the entire Buffalo Fire and City family, are in my thoughts and prayers, Poloncarz stated.
