According to a tweet from Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on Thursday, Jason Arno, 37, has been identified as the firefighter who died on Wednesday while putting out a fire in the city’s central business district.
The Buffalo Fire Department claims that Arno died while tackling a four-alarm fire that broke out in a three-story building on Main Street Wednesday morning at about 10 a.m.
The large fire was ultimately put out, despite Renaldo’s warning that it wouldn’t be unexpected if some locations were still smoking.
The mayor claimed that because the building’s remnants were deemed dangerous, an immediate demolition was required. The demolition might be finished as soon as Wednesday night, according to Renaldo.
In honor of the deceased fireman, Brown ordered that the flags on all city buildings fly at half-staff. The mayor revealed on Wednesday night that Renaldo and Renaldo met with the firefighter’s family.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz has ordered that all flags at county-owned buildings fly at half-staff.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the Buffalo firefighter who passed away today while carrying out his or her duty, as well as with the entire Buffalo Fire and City family, according to Poloncarz.
