Jarl Kare On Vikings Valhalla Is Played By Asbjørn Krogh Nissen
Asbjørn Krogh Nissen is well known for his role as Jarl Kare on TV series Vikings: Valhalla.
Vikings: Valhalla is a follow-up series to Vikings that is set 100 years afterward and centering on the adventures of Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Hardrada, and the Norman King William the Conqueror.
History buffs assume that Jarl Kare is based on the real historical figure known as Haakon Sigurdsson. However, this is not the whole story.
Jeb Stuart, Vikings: Valhalla showrunner, had created a female, powerful figure for Freydis (Frida Gustavsson) whilst Harald (Leo Suter) and Leif (Sam Corlett) were in London.
Furthermore, the real Haakon Sigurdsson is a white man, whereas Vikings: Valhalla‘s Haakon is a black woman. The former was a powerful earl and pagan leader, who became the de facto ruler of Norway from 975 to 995, and coined the name Hakon the Powerful. On the other hand, Vikings: Valhalla Haakon is the ruler of the fictional land of Kattegat.
In one of the interviews with Newsweek, Henderson explained that Haakon is fictional, purely fictional. So it’s not like a male character, it’s a fictional character but of course, she’s inspired and based on both male and female characters.
