Janet Anderson was a Labour Party politician in England. Anderson attended Trowbridge Girls’ High School (now known as The John of Gaunt School) and Kingswood Grammar School in Kingswood, South Gloucestershire. Anderson studied at the Central London Polytechnic and the Université de Nantes.
Anderson began working as a secretary for The Scotsman and The Sunday Times in 1971. Anderson began working as the personal assistant to the MP for Blackburn, Barbara Castle, and her successor, Jack Straw, until the 1987 General Election, when she ran unsuccessfully for the marginal seat of Rossendale and Darwen, losing by 4,982 votes to David Trippier.
During her tenure as Tourism Minister, rural tourism lost £100 million per week during the height of the foot and mouth crisis. When MI-6 tried to block filming around the exterior of their Headquarters prior to the release of the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, Anderson successfully appealed to the Foreign Secretary, who overruled them and allowed filming to begin.
