Jane Marczewski, a Zanesville-born singer known as “Nightbirde” who became famous after appearing in America’s Got Talent, died of cancer on Saturday night at her home in San Clemente, California, surrounded by family as she was 31 years old.

Marczewski received a standing ovation and golden buzzer by AGT judge Simon Cowell in June after singing her original song “It’s Okay” about her determination to remain hopeful and optimistic during the worst of times.

But a few weeks later, Jane quit the television contest, claiming that her health had deteriorated and that her battle with cancer required all her energy and attention.

Katelyn said she last saw her sister when the Marczewski family gathered in Zanesville for Christmas. It was clear at the time that Jane was not feeling well, but she was dancing with her younger nieces and nephews.
