He founded Cable News Network, the first 24-hour cable news channel (CNN). In addition, he founded WTBS, the first superstation for cable television, which ultimately became TBS.

In order to enhance American support for the UN, he donated $1 billion to establish the United Nations Foundation, a public charity. The United Nations Foundation’s board of directors is presided over by Turner. Also, in 2001, Turner and US Senator Sam Nunn created the Nuclear Threat Initiative together.

NTI is a non-partisan group whose goal is to lessen the world’s reliance on and the spread of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. He is the board of directors’ co-chairman at the moment.

Turner returned to the South in late 1960 after graduating from Brown University to take the general manager position at his father’s company’s Macon, Georgia, location. Turner, who was 24 when his father committed suicide in March 1963, took over as president and CEO of Turner Advertising Company and expanded it into a global business.

According to It Ain’t as Easy as It Seems, he joined the Young Republicans, saying he “felt at home among these young conservatives and was just following in [his father’s] far-right footsteps.”
