James C. Wofford Cause Of Death

Jimmy Wofford was an equestrian from the United States. Wofford was born into an equestrian family in Junction City, Kansas. Col. John W. Wofford, who died when James was ten, was a member of the United States Show Jumping Team at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Colonel Wofford went on to coach eventers and show jumpers at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki.

Warren Wofford, James’s younger brother, is the only USET rider who has qualified in both show jumping and eventing. He chose show jumping but only competed in the 1956 Stockholm Games as an alternate. Warren did, however, meet his future wife, Dawn Penelope Wofford, who competed on the British Show Jumping Team in the Olympic Games in 1956 and 1960.

After retiring, Wofford began focusing on coaching and has produced riders for nearly every USET Eventing team. Since 1978, Wofford has had at least one student on every US Olympic, World Championship, and Pan American team.
