James William Acaster was born in Kettering on January 9th, 1985. He received his musical training at Northampton College and Montagu Secondary School. After finishing his education, he took a job as a teaching assistant at a school for children with autism.
He started performing stand-up comedy in his own time. Before he entered the world of comedy, Acaster played the drums in many bands in his hometown, including The Wow! Scenario and the Capri-Sun Quartet.
He used the stage name Sir William Strawberry as a member of the latter. After The Wow! Scenario split up, Acaster decided to pursue comedy while contemplating what he really wanted to do.
The Wow! Scenario recorded an album in 2007 called Stand in the Star: A Verse and a Chorus, but it was never released.

James Acaster is not known to have any children at the moment. Despite Acaster’s declaration in 2017 that he and the band would collaborate once more to complete the record and release it the following year, the album hasn’t yet been released.
