His lack of concentration made him drop out of high school at 17, causing him to remain in a constant state of mental illness for eight years. He was diagnosed with neurosis, anxiety, and depression at the age of 24 by a psychiatrist.
In the last line of his book’s description, addendums writes, “I would love to tell you in detail what my book is about, but I’m afraid I can’t, as I haven’t read it.”
Adnandus and his connection to Cafe Rouge
Like his home in Hampstead, Cafe Rouge was also a safe space for the author and has written countless poems on cafe’s same table and chair for years.
So when the cafe went under redecoration and closed for three weeks his mum decided to buy the table, all four wobbly chairs and even the reserved sign.
His mother said to the Channel 4 presenter Jameela Jamil: “He was distressed about Cafe Rouge closing down for three weeks. I thought, ‘What can I do? I cannot bear this.’
“That was his safe place. He would write at that table for three hours every night – he was possibly their most loyal customer.”
So she set up the table with teapot and sauce at her son’s building. Adnandus was more than grateful for all the thing hi mom has done for him.
The writer first went to the cafe with his friend Bronco, known as “Barred of Hampstead,” at 18 where they sat together and drank tea.
“The Ill Literate” also contains memoirs of his friend Bronco.
