The Georgia Bulldogs’ defensive tackle Jalen Da’Quan Carter was born on April 4, 2001. He has two national championships with the team, one each in 2021 and 2022.
But, in the early hours of January 15, 2023, a tragic automobile accident that claimed the lives of two persons took place in the center of Athens, Georgia.
The incident occurred as the Bulldogs were celebrating their second consecutive national championship earlier in the evening.
Authorities assert that the collision was the result of street racing between Chandler Louise LeCroy, a University of Georgia employee running a 2021 Ford Expedition, and Carter, who was operating a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk.
LeCroy was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle. She had a blood alcohol content of 0.197 at the time of the collision, which is over twice the legal limit. She hit at least two utility lines and trees before smashing into the entryway of an apartment building, blocking the inhabitant until the wreckage could be cleared.
LeCroy’s car was carrying Bulldogs football player Devin Alex Willock, who sadly was not strapped up and was thrown from the vehicle. His death was caused by the accident.
