A highly respected college football player who was projected to be drafted in the top five in the NFL draft may be jailed for his role in a car wreck that killed two people, including a teammate.
Jalen Carter, a defensive tackle for the Georgia Bulldogs, is accused of reckless driving and racing that resulted in the January 15th crash in Georgia. A warrant for his arrest has been issued by the police.
Carter has issued a statement on Twitter, claiming that he expects to be completely exonerated. According to authorities, he was racing in a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk at high speeds when the collision occurred.
Chandler LeCroy, the team’s recruiting analyst, and Carter’s teammate Devin Willock were both killed in the accident. Toxicology findings revealed that LeCroy was driving a Ford Expedition at speeds in excess of 100mph and had a blood alcohol percentage that was more than twice the legal limit.
Both vehicles were switching lanes, driving in the center turn lane, driving in opposite lanes of traffic, passing other motorists, and driving at high speeds, according to the police, in an apparent attempt to outpace each other. The crash also wounded two other Georgia football players.
At the annual NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, where college football players try out for the NFL, Carter was informed about the arrest warrant. In a tweet, Carter said he would go back to Athens, Georgia, to face the misdemeanor charges and make sure the whole truth was told.
The allegations deeply concerned Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart, especially in light of the fact that the neighborhood is still reeling from the deaths of two cherished members. During a parade commemorating Georgia’s second consecutive national college football title, the crash happened six days later, just hours later.
