Angelo Sodano, Italian Cardinal, died on May 27, 2022. He had been hospitalized for some time following complications from covid-19.
Angelo Sodano was accused of shielding sexually abusive clergy in the Legion of Christ in 2019, and he gave his resignation on the same day that such allegations surfaced online. Although they did not specify the reason for his resignation, some sources said he resigned because of his old age.

The cardinal Angelo Sodano died after his health deteriorated. He had been hospitalized for pneumonia earlier this month after testing positive for Covid-19.
He had been ill for quite some time, and suddenly his health deteriorated, and he passed away. Thus, it seems his cause of death is complications from covid-19.
Pope Francis sent his condolences to the family on Saturday in the telegram sent to Sodano’s sister. He was a long-serving Vatican official, having served as secretary of state and dean of the College of Cardinals under two popes.
He was also a prominent character in French journalist Frederic Martel’s book “In the Closet of the Vatican: Power, Homosexuality, Hypocrisy,” which discussed the cardinal’s lifestyle in Rome and his ties to Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet while in Chile.
Even though he remained influential until his retirement, he had been a controversial figure after facing severe criticism during the church sexual abuse crisis, as per CNN.
In 2004, he pressured former Irish foreign minister Dermot Ahern to “indemnify the Catholic Church against legal proceedings for compensation by clergy child sexual-abuse sufferers” in Ireland, which Ahern declined.
In an August 2018 letter, former Apostolic Nuncio to the United States Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigan accused several Catholic bishops and cardinals of failing to act on complaints of sexual misconduct by former cardinal Theodore McCarrick.
The Legion of Christ accused 33 priests and 71 seminaries of sexually abusing 175 children for decades and said that Sodano was the one who directed efforts to cover up the reports of abuse when he was Secretary of State. Following several accusations, he resigned from Dean of the College of Cardinals.

Angelo Sodano’s net worth is yet to be disclosed on his Wikipedia, but his career information is readily available there. He worked as a secretary in nunciatures in Latin America in 1959. Later, he was assigned to the Vatican’s Council for the Public Affairs of the Church in 1968.
Then, because he knew several languages, he was appointed as titular archbishop of Nova Caesaris and apostolic nuncio to Chile in 1977, where he had previously served as nunciature secretary.
