Isaiah Washington Homophobic – Isaiah Washington Gay
He shared his experiences making the 1996 film about a group of African-American men who are taking a cross-country bus trip in order to participate in the Million Man March. Get On The Bus also starred Charles S. Dutton, Ossie Davis, Andre Braugher, Hill Harper, Bernie Mac, and Roger Guenveur Smith, among others.
He as well told the audience of approximately 40 people at West Hollywood Library that except for Davis, other cast members of the film seemed to shun him during filming. He as well claims that co-star Harry J. Lennix, who played his estranged boyfriend, did not want to do a kissing scene with him. he ends up kissing his hand in the end.
Because of this standoff over wardrobe, Washington says he briefly left the film before production began. But was persuaded to come back by a producer and was allowed more freedom with his character and how he would look. Washington also alluded to his high-profile firing from Grey’s Anatomy and the backstage incident at the Golden Globe Awards in 2007 that ultimately cost him his job.
Washington’s troubles had begun when he had an on-set scuffle in the fall of 2006 with co-star Patrick Dempsey during which Washington is reported to have said he was not Dempsey’s ‘faggot’ like TR Knight, their fellow co-star. After the incident was widely reported, Knight released a statement confirming that he is indeed gay.

it’s been 10 years since Isaiahgate on Grey’s Anatomy, a controversy which led to Isaiah Washington being fired from the ABC show at the peak of its popularity. But the Preston Burke portrayer says he’s tired of being branded a villain. Read on, Grey’s fans
In case you missed the on-set drama, Isaiah reportedly used a homophobic slur in reference to co-star T.R. Knight during a 2006 argument with Patrick Dempsey. He then used the word again backstage at the 2017 Golden Globes while denying the incident.
Shonda Rhimes publicly forgave the actor and gave him a one-episode reprise on the show in Season 10 to provide closure for Burke and Cristina, but his reputation has never recovered since the homophobic outburst.
In a 2015 interview with HuffPost Live, Isaiah said he wants the public to move on: “This narrative of me being a villain has to stop.” He tried to defend himself by pointing out that he played a gay character in the 1996 Spike Lee film Get on the Bus.
“I played a gay character when it was unpopular when my agent told me that my career was going to end, when African-Americans at the Brooklyn Moon Cafe in Brooklyn all shunned me,” he said.
Then the Image Award winner got back to the show that made him a household name: “This Grey’s thing, I love it because the residuals are so amazing. I’m grateful, but I really wish people would let it go, you know?”
