His works of science fiction and popular science books are his most well-known works, and he was born Isaak Yudovich Ozimov in 1920 and died on April 6, 1992. He was an American author and professor of biochemistry at Boston University who is best known for his works of science fiction and popular science books. Asimov was one of the most prolific writers of all time, having authored or edited more than 500 books as well as an estimated 90,000 letters and postcards. He was also one of the most popular authors of his day.
In all, nine of the ten main categories of the Dewey Decimal Classification have seen the publication of his works. Asimov is generally regarded as a master of hard science fiction, and during his lifetime, he was regarded as one of the “Big Three” science fiction authors, with Robert A. Heinlein and Arthur C. Clarke, who were collectively known as the “Big Three.” The Foundation Series is Asimov’s most well-known work, although he also has many other notable series, including the Galactic Empire series and the Robot series. It is clearly stated that the Galactic Empire books are set in an earlier period of the same fictitious world as the Foundation series.
Later, starting with Foundation’s Edge, he connected this far future to the Robot and Spacer tales, thus establishing a coherent “future history” for his stories in the manner of Robert A. Heinlein’s and Cordwainer Smith’s and Poul Anderson’s earlier productions of the same genre. He authored hundreds of short stories, including the social science fiction tale “Nightfall,” which was named the greatest short science fiction storey of all time by the Science Fiction Writers of America in 1964.
Asimov created the Lucky Starr series of juvenile science-fiction books under the pen name Paul French, which were published in the United Kingdom. Apart from fiction, Asimov also authored mysteries and fantasy, as well as nonfiction. A historical approach is used in the majority of his popular science works to explain scientific ideas, taking the reader as far back as possible in time to a period when the science in issue was at its most basic level.
Many of the scientists he cites have their countries, birth and death dates included alongside their names; etymologies and pronunciation guidelines for technical terminology are often included as well. Included among them are Guide to Science, the three-volume series Understanding Physics, as well as Isaac Asimov’s Chronology of Science and Discovery, as well as books on astrophysics, mathematics, the Bible, William Shakespeare’s writings, and chemistry.
A longtime member and vice president of Mensa International, Asimov did so unwillingly; he characterised certain members of that group as “brain-proud and pushy about their IQs,” which he thought was a little harsh. He derived more pleasure from his role as president of the American Humanist Association. In his honour, the asteroid 5020 Asimov, a crater on the planet Mars, a Brooklyn, New York primary school, and a literary prize have all been named after him.
