Venus Ebony Starr Williams was born on June 17, 1980, in Lynwood, California, the United States to parents Richard Williams and Oracene Price. She was raised alongside five siblings including Serena Williams, Yetunde Price, Lyndrea Price, Isha Price, and Richard Williams III.
Venus Williams and her family moved from Compton, California, to West Palm Beach, Florida, when she was ten years old. She became a professional in 1994 and had reached her first major final at the 1997 US Open.
Venus Williams claimed the Wimbledon and US Open titles in 2000 and 2001 as well as Olympic singles gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She became the first African American woman to reach the singles world No. 1 ranking on 25 February 2002 in the Open Era.
Venus Williams is a former world No. 1 in both singles and doubles, winning seven Grand Slam singles titles with five at Wimbledon and two at the US Open. She is globally regarded as one of the all-time greatest tennis players and has won 14 women’s doubles major titles all partnering with Serena.
