What is The Waltonville Claw on Netflix?

The Waltonville Claw is a fictional Netflix documentary discussed shortly in ‘Black’ Mirror Loch Henry. The show is about a man who ate a woman’s eye in front of her.

‘Black Mirror’ Season 6 Episode 2 is about a young couple, Davis and Pia, who travel to a sleepy Scottish town called Loch Henry to work on a genteel nature documentary.

‘Black’ Mirror Season 6 Loch Henry cast includes Samuel Blenkin (playing Davis), Myha’la Herrold (Pia), Daniel Portman (Stuart), Monica Dolan (Janet), and Gregor Firth (Kenneth).

During the episode, we see Stuart and Davis telling Pia about a 1997 incident where a couple, Simon Challis and Dawn, rented a cottage in Loch Henry for their honeymoon.

On the day the pair were supposed to have left the place, they were nowhere to be seen. However, their car and clothes were discovered when a cleaner checked the property.

The incident became a nationwide story as the media swarmed the town. Later, Iain was wrecked in the pub, talking about Dawn.

And when he was thrown out by John Hannah, Stuart’s dad, he threatened to return and shoot the place. As he knew he had a gun, he asked a local policeman, Davis’s dad, to go check on him.

When the police arrived at the door, Iain shot him from upstairs before turning the gun on his parents and himself.

After visiting the boarded-up house, Pia becomes obsessed and forces Davis to make a true-crime film about the murders.

Stuart agrees and says it was a brilliant idea because it could revitalize the town’s economy like Netflix’s The Waltonville Claw.

“So, half this show was just amazing, constant footage of Waltonville, forests, and mountains, f….ing waterfalls!” he added. They also talked about a man who ate an eye in the show.

‘Black Mirror’ Loch Henry Easter Eggs

‘Black Mirror’ Loch Henry includes a considerable amount of Easter eggs referencing previous episodes. Despite being an anthology series, there are themes connecting the episodes.

While collecting clues about Iain’s murders, Davis and Pia come across a newspaper covering the murders.

The cover page has the headline “Smart in Trouble,” pointing to the Conservative politician Michael Smat, who appears in the last episode, Demon 79.

If you look closely, you’ll notice Davis’ laptop stickers reference previous episodes and include the “Arkangel” logo, the “White Bear” glyph, and the CGI bear from “The Waldo Moment.”

While the couple meets Historik Productions to pitch their documentary, a poster for The Callow Years hangs in the background.

The dramatized adaptation refers to Prime Minister Michael Callow from the series pilot, The National Anthem.

During a new montage about Ian’s case, headlines about the McCardles display on the screen.

There is also a teaser banner with the headline “Whatever Happened to Michael Callow? Now He Runs a Zoo!” on the front page of the Scottish Daily Mail.

Late in the episode, Davis and Pia’s fictional series -Loch Henry: Truth Will Out- receive a BAFTA award nomination for Best Factual Series against another familiar story.

Other nominees include Euthansia: Inside Project Junipero, a direct reference to ‘Black’ Mirror’s Season 3 episode “San Junipero.”

The beloved episode has long been cited as one of the series’ best episodes.

‘Black Mirror’ Loch Henry Ending Explained

‘Black Mirror’ Loch Henry ending saw Davis sitting with a note written by his mom and staring at his BAFTA. He wonders if the truth was worth it in the end.

The episode focuses on a couple, Davis and Pia, traveling to Loch Henry to work on a documentary about egg theft. But along the way, they pivot to a local story about a killer, Iain.

Iain is shown as a killer who tortured and murdered eight people in the area, including Davis’s father, policeman Kenny.

He was shot by Iain when he went to check on him. Shortly after the injury, he passed away due to contracting an illness while in the hospital.

Pia wanted to make a documentary about the killer and murders. And although Davis denied the suggestion concerning his father’s ‘death’ he ultimately agreed.

Later in the film, when Davis is in the hospital, Pia discovers that Iain was actually aided by Davis’ parents, Kenneth and Janet.

They were the ones using him and his home to conduct torture and murder. After realizing the truth, Pia is terrified and tries to go back to town. Soon, Janet finds out Pia knows the truth.

Pia manages to get away from Janet and runs away. And while crossing the river in the dark, she slips and drowns.

Janet returns home, retrieves all the evidence of her and her husband’s crimes on the kitchen table, and commits suicide.

We learn that Kenneth killed Iain and his family before dramatically shooting himself. Ironically, the injury led to his demise.

Cut to an unspecified time later, a trailer for the documentary is released. Loch Henry: Truth Will Out also wins the BAFTAS, which is accepted by Historik Productions producer Kate.

Back in the hotel room, Davis receives a call from Stuart, who is on cloud nine about the award and the tourism the documentary has brought back to their town.

Meanwhile, Davis is left traumatized by the truth as he sits with his mother’s note, staring at his award, left to wonder if the truth was worth it all in the end.

Viewers are quite thrilled about the Loch Henry ending, with one individual writing, “What an episode…. even better than the first one… beautiful scenery and dark ending.”

“The note at the end was poignant. I think it shows a mother’s love for her son endures to the very end. She wanted to see him success, despite all that happened,” another added.
