Some fans are curious about if the Russian prison In Red Notice is real as they watch the new release. Let’s find out if the movie was shot in a real jail or on a set.
Red Notice, an action-comedy, arrived on Netflix this weekend and appeared to be a hit, breaking the major streaming platform’s opening day record.
‘Red Notice,’ directed and written by Rawson Marshall Thurber, is a heist action-comedy movie.
It centers on two high-end art thieves competing to be the best in the business, as well as an FBI tracker determined to catch them.
Is The Russian Prison In Red Notice Real?
While the Russian prison scenes in Red Notice appeared quite convincing, the general public began to believe that it was an actual prison. They were, however, shot at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, not in a real prison.
According to the Tyler Perry Studios webpage, the lot is over 300 acres and includes several pre-existing sets, such as the oval office and an iconic dinner and coffee house.
However, it is unknown which set the prison scenes were shot on, though the studios do have a prison yard set.
The prison was constructed on set, with the backdrop based on an actual location in Svalbard, Norway.
Even if this is the location of the scenes, it has most likely undergone extensive renovations before filming, making it realistic.
