According to history recorded, Willie Boy fell in love with young native beauty Carlota in 1909. He is a long-distance Desert Runner in the Chemehuevi tradition. However, Carlota’s father forbids Willie and Carlota from being together.
The young lovers escape to the Mohave desert as Carlota’s father is accidentally shot to death during a deadly conflict. Two Native American trackers and a mounted posse carrying firearms with a local sheriff seek retribution for their “murdered” tribal leader.
Willie Boy and Carlota outlive the guys and their horses to avoid capture. Director Christian Camargo believes he is telling a true story. Martin Sensmeier plays the character of Willie Boy, and Jason Mamoa plays a co-star.

Willie Boy is a real character from Chemehuevi who had fallen in love with Carlota. He was born in 1881 in Pahrump, Nye County, Nevada.
Willie became an icon of love and bravery from the native American tribe who pursued his love. He was killed on 7 Oct 1909 in Landers, San Bernardino County, California.
Boy earned a reputation as a hardworking cowboy at the Gilman Ranch while Carlota stayed with her family. Carlota and Willie fell in love despite the wishes of Carlota’s father, William Mike.
Carlota’s father Mike was a spiritual guide and medicinal man known to white people as, “Old Mike Boniface,” he had an influence. While in the run, Willie Boy shoots himself with his last round.
William Mike and Daughter Carlota
William Mike also known as “Old Mike,” was the father of Carlota. He was a shaman of the tribe and a strong-built man with spiritual power. Mike forbade his daughter from getting married to any relative as such a union was prohibited by tribal customs.
The marriage with relatives would bring shame and dishonor to their families and Mike simply disliked Willie Boy. Carlota fled with Willie Boy over her father’s restrictions. The two spent the night together before being picked up by family.
Willie Boy relocated with Carlota and her family to the Gilman ranch in Banning to pick fruits. Banning is 80 miles east of Los Angeles.
Mike most declined when Willie Boy contacted him on the evening of 26 September 1909, seeking Carlota’s hand in marriage. The couple was linked within the previous six generations against Chemehuevi customs.
During their altercation, Mike was shot through the left eye and died instantly. Mike’s wife, Maria, did not report the murder until the morning.

Native to the Tlingit and Koyukon-Athabascan tribes of Alaska, Martin Sensmeier is a great fit for Willie Boy in the Last Manhunt. He is an American actor raised in the Alaskan community of Yakutat.
Sensmeier is best recognized for his work on Wind River, Westworld, Yellowstone, and the Magnificent Seven. Sensmeier worked as a professional model in New York and eventually got work as an actor in Los Angeles.
His debut movie was a science fiction thriller Beyond the Sky. Sensmeier has played Montford Johnson in the biopic The Chickasaw Rancher which was released in 2017.

Mainei Kinimaka plays Carlotta in the movie In The Last Manhunt. She plays the character of Willie Boy’s girlfriend from the historic event.
Mainei Aloha Kinimaka was born and raised in the Hawaiian community of Anahola. She fits in the role of Carlotta perfectly because of her Hawaiian ancestry. Kinimaka is the daughter of big wave surfing icon Titus Kinimaka.
Her priority has always been and will continue to be the preservation of the Hawaiian culture, environment, and way of life. Mainei’s mother is a small-business entrepreneur who pushed her hard to achieve her academic ambitions.
Kinimaka wrote, directed, and edited her debut short film in 2015. The movie focused on her hometown and the problem of domestic violence.
