Is Shane Ryan Arrested: Locked up In Prison After Slamming 20kg Weight On Man’s Head
Shane William Ryan, 33, has been arrested and he pled guilty in Supreme Court on the day his trial was to begin, allowing CCTV evidence from the Darwin Gym incident to be published.
The court heard two males at Next Level Gym in Roseberry in the early morning of October 2020. Ryan was seen walking towards the victim, who was laying on a seat in the courtroom while lugging a 20-kilogram plate and carrying a dumbbell on his back.
He lunged towards the victim, slamming a weight into a fellow gym-goer, knocking the guy to the ground.
Ryan walks away with the victim’s face in his hands, appearing to have damaged his left ankle. He ultimately returned to the man and requested that an ambulance be dispatched to help him.
John Burns, who sentenced Ryan to 19 months in jail, described Ryan’s acts as an “extremely hazardous activity.”
The couple’s relationship was described as “friendly” and “cordial” in court, and the unprovoked attack lacked purpose.
According to the court, Ryan claimed that the occurrence was an “accident,” but conceded that his actions were premeditated.
