Who Is Redman?
Redman is an American rapper signed with the Def Jam label.
Rose to fame in the early 1990s, people best known him as a member of the rap duo Method Man & Redman. Not only for their rap, but they are also famous for their roles in films and sitcoms.
Redman was born on 17 April 1970 as Reginald Noble to Darlene and Eddie Noble in Newark, New Jersey. He attended two schools, Speedway Avenue and 13th Avenue, before the West Side High School. Then in 1987, at 16 years old, the Montclair State University expelled him in his freshman year due to poor academic performance.
After the expulsion, he lived with his mother but eventually got kicked out of the house for selling cocaine. At 18, he found himself as a DJ-MC with the alias DJ Kut-Killa, freestyling over funk and hip-hop instrumental tracks in parks and house parties around NY and NJ.
Today, Redman has become a successful recording artist, but he did go through that grinding phase. EPMD’s Erick Sermon eventually discovered his talent while the rapper was a DJ for Lords of the Underground.
He moved on to Long Island with Erick and went out on tour with the group. He did everything from carrying their bags and doing rap freestyle. In 1990, the rapper did a freestyle on the EPMD show in New York, describing himself using every letter in the alphabet. This event changed his entire career- he became an official rap artist, beginning production of his first major-label album, Whut? Thee Album, with Eric
His sister, Rosalyn Noble, is also a rapper who goes by the name Roz. Likewise, his cousin, Tame One, also raps.
