Is petite smaller than xs

When most people hear the word “petite,” they assume it means “tiny.” To be clear, while “petite” does mean small, in terms of clothing, it refers to a specific height size range that is made to fit those who are shorter. Keep in mind, though, that shape also plays a role in how an item of clothing will look and feel.

What height is considered petite? Regular/standard sizing aims for the 5’4”-5’8” woman. The difference between petite and regular sizes is that petites are designed for women 4’11”-5’3”. As you can imagine, a size 10 on a 5’8” body will look different on someone who is 5’0”.

According to Wikipedia, a petite size is a standard clothing size designed to fit women of shorter height, typically shorter than 162 cm (5 ft 4 in). So, petite is really just talking about the height, and not referring to the weight. That means you can be petite and skinny just as much as you can be petite and curvy.

For American designers, petite sizing sleeve length could be 0.5 to 2.5 inches shorter than regular sizing. Take Banana Republic for example, petite sizing for tops or sweaters has sleeve length ranging from 30” (XSP) to 32” (LP), compared with 30.5 inches (XXS) to 34.5 inches (XL) for regular sizing.

For example, you can be petite and plus-size at the same time. You may find that petite sizes fit you properly below the waist but not above it — or vice versa. Though petite technically means “short,” length is not the only difference between misses and petite clothing sizes.

In fashion and clothing, a petite size is a U.S. standard clothing size designed to fit women of a short, smaller build of height 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm) or less.
