A single investigator by the name of John Nazarian asserted in 2016 that “it’s rumored he was with a German national.” But none of the searches for McDermott worked, and he stayed out of reach the whole time.
In 2017, the magazine New Idea released photographs of a guy and a woman in Mexico who are rumored to be McDermott and his new partner. The couple were reportedly photographed in Mexico.
The allegations, however, were debunked a few weeks later when a couple from Canada came forward to state that they were the people pictured in the photos.
