The rising actor was born to a Hong Kong father and a Malaysian mother on July 20, 1986 in British Columbia, Canada. He is Canadian by nationality and of mixed ethnicity. He has a younger brother called Own Chaun and other siblings whose identities are known to the public.
Chau began his journey to fame precisely in 2000, acquiring training in Wing Chun for eight years. He then studied Chinese martial art, traditional wushu and tai chi under the tutelage of Zhang Ahi Bing, a renowned Chinese martial arts teacher from Harbin.
Upon graduation, four years later, he returned to China and began studying West Coast Chinese Martial Arts in Vancouver under Bruce Fontaine, who taught him Modern Wushu – a martial art based on performance.
After successful training with Bruce, Chau, in 2007, trained for seven months with the Beijing Sports University Wushu team to prepare for the Canadian national team selection event. He later became a member of the Canadian National Wushu Team after a successful exit.
