Is Oscar Pistorius Still In Jail Or Is He Released?
The athlete has served more than half of a 13-year jail term, the minimum required to qualify for parole, for murdering model Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. He has now been transferred from Pretoria to prison in Gqeberha.
After serving half of his sentence, he became eligible for parole under South African law. However, the opinion of victims’ families is considered by a parole board when deciding whether to release an offender, but it’s not the only criteria.
He was previously released on parole on October 19, 2015, after serving one-sixth of his sentence. The state, however, appealed the conviction, and in December 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeal rejected the culpable homicide conviction, finding him guilty of murder instead.

He was born on November 22, 1986, in South Africa to Sheila Pistorius and Heinrich Carl Wilhelm Pistorius. He was raised alongside his older brother Carl and younger sister Aimee.
He had both of his feet amputated when he was 11 months old due to a congenital abnormality; he was born without the outside of both feet and both fibulae. Despite that, he competed in both non-disabled sprint events and below-knee amputee sprint events.
Moreover, he was a well-known South African runner who gained prominence as a disabled athlete who competed at a high level, including at numerous Paralympic Games and the 2012 Summer Olympics.
