Nathaniel Clyne is a British international right back who plays his club football for Liverpool FC team from Merseyside. The defender, who is known for his power and defensive strength as well as his ability to join or launch an attack from the defence, is looking to break into the first team in the coming months after spending almost a year on the sidelines due to injuries.
Youth and education
Clyne was born Nathaniel Edwin Clyne on April 5, 1991 in Stockwell, London. From an early age, the player had dreamed of becoming a professional football player. He and other children have always played collecting games in their field and it was during one of these games that Clyne was discovered by an academy trainer, Steadman Scott.
Mr. Scott, owner of Afewee Academy, recruited Clyne and helped him grow into the player he is today. Clyne started out as a striker but soon found himself in the right position due to his size. He embraced his new role and quickly caught the eye of London’s biggest clubs. In 1999, despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Clyne opted to join the relatively smaller Crystal Palace. He was part of their established youth team for eight years, before being promoted to their senior side in 2008.
He made his first-team debut for Crystal Palace on 18 October 2008 in a league match against Barnsley. Two days after this match, he signed his first professional contract with the club. He spent four years with the senior team, played 137 games and won the 2011 Player of the Year award before joining Southampton.
Clyne enjoyed huge success with the Saints as his performances earned him call-ups to England’s Under-21 and senior sides. He has also been put on Liverpool’s shopping list as they seek to replace veteran right-back Glen Johnson. Liverpool finally paid £12.5m for Clyne’s services on July 1, 2015 and the rest is history.
Is Nathaniel Clyne gay?
A quick Google search to find out if there are active gay footballers will tell you that at present there are none. This means that Nathaniel Clyne, who is still actively playing and entering the peak of his career with Liverpool, is not gay.
His sexual orientation became a subject of speculation a few years ago. He and his former Southampton team-mate Luke Shaw were believed to be the first active footballers to come out as gay after a major newspaper wrote that two Premier League players, including an England player, would soon be gay. He added that both men would come out with their sexual orientation at the same time in order to share the weight of the coverage they would receive.
Does he have a wife or a girlfriend?
Nathaniel Clyne is unmarried and it’s unclear if he’s currently in a relationship, although he’s been linked in the past to British playboy model Carla Howe, Brazilian model Sahara Santos and most recently, to another lady identified as Kelci Molloy.
In December 2015 and most of 2016, Clyne was said to have dated Carla Howe, as they were seen often enjoying each other’s company at nightclubs. The pair later went their separate ways, making way for Clyne to bond with Santos, who starred on online comedy show TrollStationUK and in a music video for American musician Trey Songz. Clyne was pictured with Santos in August 2017 as they strolled arm-in-arm through rainy London. This prompted speculation that the pair could be an item, but nothing further was heard from the duo.
A few months later, the England international started a relationship with Kelci Molloy, whom he met on Facebook. They reportedly hit it off immediately and quickly became a couple, as they went on a romantic vacation to Qatar. Everything seemed to be going well for the couple until Molloy claimed her man had cheated on her when she was heavily pregnant with his child. She reportedly later abandoned him and moved on with the child, a son, Nathaniel, named after his father.
