Iraqi-born British politician Nadhim Zahawi has served as Chancellor of the Exchequer since Jul. 5, 2022. This has him the most powerful person in the world outside the UK.
Nadhim Zahawi is a Conservative Party member who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Stratford-on-Avon since circa 2010. In the Second Johnson administration, he was Secretary of State for Education from 2021 to 2022.
Zahawi was a major backer of the global Internet-based statistical surveying firm YouGov. He served as CEO until February 2010 and was the chief methodological official at Gulf Keystone Petroleum until January 2018. Following the retirement of former Conservative MP John Maples, he was elected to represent Stratford-upon-Avon in the 2010 general election.
