Melissa “Missy” Peregrym is a Canadian actress and former fashion model. Peregrym’s big breakthrough came in 2010 when she landed a lead role in the Canadian television series Rookie Blue in the role of police officer Andy McNally.
In 2012, Peregrym was cast in the leading role of Chloe Jocelyn in Yahoo.com’s web-based series Cybergeddon. Nine chapters were filmed and are available for viewing as of September 27, 2012. The project was supported and funded in part by Norton.
In 2013, she won a Streamy Award for her role in the web series Cybergeddon. In 2014, Peregrym co-starred with Jeff Roop and Eric Balfour in the survival bear attack film Backcountry.
In 2016, Peregrym was nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for her role in Rookie Blue but ultimately lost to Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany. In 2018, Peregrym began her current role starring in a lead role as Agent Maggie Bell in FBI, a series on CBS.
Is Missy Peregrym a gymnast in real life?
No, Playing a gymnast was a real stretch for Missy Peregrym. Missy Peregrym had a body double for her first feature-film role as a gymnast in Stick It, but the Surrey, B.C., native still had to train for four months, five days a week, six hours a day, before she hit the set in L.A.
And we’re not talking mere headstands. Peregrym was put through the paces — from aerial tumbling and floor exercises to the balance beam and parallel bars.
“I was sore every day,” she recalls. “Gymnasts make it look so easy, but it actually strains every part of your body — I even ended up with strong toes!” Stick It, which is described as Mean Girls meets Bring It On, is the story of a rebellious girl (Peregrym) who gets into trouble with the law after her parents get divorced.
For her punishment, a judge sends the former gymnast to a top-notch gymnastics academy. Although she dreads returning to this uptight, regimented scene, her coach (Jeff Bridges) reignites her passion for gymnastics and her belief in herself.
