When Michael Tenneson failed to return from a work-release outing on March 10, 1987, he was serving felony time in the La Crosse County jail.

Michael Tenneson, a native of Holmen, Wisconsin, was serving felony time in the La Crosse County jail on March 10, 1987, when he failed to return from a work-release assignment.

Tenneson claimed that working on the album helped him heal from some of his traumas and that nearly all of the inmates he’s met have “extensive histories of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse,” according to his letter.

“Once upon a time, I was held up by newspapers as a cold-blooded beast with no regard for human life,” Tenneson sings in the song “Remorse.”

Is Michael Tenneson Still In Jail?

Michael Tenneson, who narrowly avoided the death penalty, is still serving his term and appears to be a model inmate.

In 1987, he killed three people during a break-in in Wisconsin before killing more during a poker game in Colorado, actions for which he now says he feels remorse.

While Tenneson claims to have forgiven himself years ago, he attributes his ability to like himself to his work with Die Jim Crow Records.

“It’s the most profound healing outlet I’ve ever encountered personally,” he said. This initiative has taught me to appreciate myself and smile when I look in the mirror.”

Tenneson was found guilty of two charges of murder and one count each of aggravated robbery and aggravated auto theft by a jury in the Dever trial on March 18, 1988.

He was sentenced to two life terms plus 32 years for robbery and 16 years for auto theft.

Tenneson was swiftly apprehended and imprisoned on murder charges. He readily confessed to the Wisconsin slayings while in detention and was later sentenced to three life sentences for the crimes.
