Is Mark Armstrong Leaving WTVD?

Yes, Mark Armstrong is leaving WTDV.

After serving 17 years as a sports anchor at WTVD/ABC11, Mark Armstrong is departing. It’s probably the last one he will have.

He anchored his last sportscast at the station on May 24, 2021.

Why Is Mark Armstrong Leaving WTVD

After 30-year stints with WRAL, Mark Armstrong watched as the station terminated sports anchor Jeff Gravley’s contract early in 2019.

He offered him a reduced-rate agreement to continue, which he declined. Armstrong’s contract is up in October, but he’s going immediately.

Mark Armstrong grew up wanting to be a market sports anchor, and after he got WTVD, he didn’t want to leave.

He did say, though, that he had lived his business’s ambition. He has been fortunate enough to be a part of incredible events. He stated that the nature of the industry had changed so drastically many of the best aspects of it are no longer so fantastic. Hence, leading to a lot of the enjoyment being sucked out of it.

Where Is Mark Armstrong Going?

Mark Armstrong stated that he would not be moving to another station or leaving the region.

He’s exiting the industry totally, attempting to stay ahead of a national and local trend among television stations to move away from sports programming.
