biography

Kevin Love was born Kevin Wesley Love to Karen and Stan Love on September 7, 1988 in Santa Monica, California. However, he was raised in Lake Oswego, Oregon where he played basketball as a child as his father was a professional basketball player.

Love attended Lake Oswego High School and played for his basketball team known as the Lakers. In his sophomore year, Love became an instrumental player for his team as he averaged 25 points and 15 rebounds per game to lead his side to the 2005 championship game they lost. The following year, he averaged 28 points and 16 rebounds per game to once again lead his team to the state championship game, this time winning.

For the third straight year in Love’s senior year, the Lake Oswego Lakers made it to the state championship behind their star player’s 33 points and 17 rebounds-per-game average. Love lost the game despite scoring 37 points, but was comforted when he was named Gatorade National Athlete of the Year at the end of the season. He finished his high school career as the all-time leading scorer in boys’ basketball history in Oregon before moving to California to play basketball at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Kevin Love’s decision to pass on the University of Oregon, his father’s alma mater, was met with widespread hostility when he received obscene messages and death threats on his cell phone. However, he remained undeterred as he led UCLA to the regular Pac-10 conference championship, where they became the #1 seed in the 2008 Division I men’s NCAA basketball tournament.

UCLA Bruins reached the last four of the tournament before losing to the Memphis Tigers. However, Love was recognized as the consensus first-team All-American, Pac-10 Player of the Year, All-Pac-10, and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year for his averages of 17.5 points and 10.6 rebounds per game .

After a successful freshman year, Loveer made himself eligible for the NBA draft and relinquished his college career. He was selected fifth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2008 NBA draft but was subsequently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in an eight-player deal that also included third overall pick OJ Mayo in the opposite direction.

Kevin Love had a slow start to life in the NBA when his team suffered a loss. However, the situation has improved after the head coach changed mid-season. Love in particular played better and scored almost twice as much on average. He finished the season as the ninth-best rebounder in the league with a total of 29 double-doubles, a Timberwolves franchise record by a freshman.

The following campaign, Love Beat the Likes, of Dwight Howard and Marcus Camby became the NBA’s top rebounder as his game soared to new heights and the contest for an All-Star appearance ensued. In 2011, Love made his All-Star debut when he also became the face of the Timberwolves franchise. However, he was frustrated by his team’s constant elimination from the playoffs.

In 2014, he was traded to Cleveland Cavaliers following the return of LeBron James. That year he made the playoffs for the first time in his career, but suffered a season-ending injury in the first quarter of Game 4 of the first round against the Boston Celtics. The Cavs advanced to the finals but were defeated by the Golden State Warriors.

Kevin Love has since made three trips to the NBA Finals and won only one. He is currently on his fourth attempt to win his second NBA championship with Cleveland.
