The English rock group Kasabian was founded in Leicester in 1997. Lead singer Tom Meighan, guitarist and occasional vocalist Sergio Pizzorno, guitarist Chris Karloff, and bassist Chris Edwards made up the band’s original line-up.
In 2004, drummer Ian Matthews joined the group. Karloff, however, left in order to find Black Onassis, a new band. As a touring lead guitarist, Jay Mehler joined the band the same year. However, he left in 2013 to join Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye. In 2021, Tim Carter succeeded Mehler as a full-time member.
Meighan quit Kasabian in July 2020, and Pizzorno took over as the band’s only lead vocalist. The group has received widespread praise for its songs over the years. For example, Kasabian won the Q Awards in 2010 and 2014 for “Best Talent in the World Today.”
Also, they received “Best Live Act” honors at the 2014 Q Awards, the 2007 and 2018 NME Awards, and the 2018.
Pizzorno has made it clear that he despises indie bands and thinks Kasabian does not fall under that umbrella, despite the fact that the band’s sound is frequently referred to as “indie rock.”
Is Kasabian named after Linda Kasabian?
Yes, Linda Kasabian, a notorious Manson Family member who served as the getaway driver during the heinous murders the organization committed, is the inspiration behind the name Kasabian. The band was originally called Saracuse, but they decided that Kasabian sounded more intriguing and distinctive, drawing inspiration from Linda’s last name.
