Netflix will release a second season of “Cheer,” the Emmy-winning docuseries on the Navarro College cheerleading team, on January 12, Variety can exclusively report.
Jerry Harris, the show’s breakout star, captivated the nation with his upbeat demeanor and eventually handled Oscar’s red carpet for Ellen DeGeneres.
The series, however, became embroiled in controversy when Harris was arrested last year on counts of sexual misbehavior, including child pornography.
Season 2 of “Cheer” is coming. Season 2 will focus on Harris’ arrest and its influence on the squad, as well as the difficulty of maintaining cheer throughout the coronavirus pandemic, according to Netflix.

Jerry Harris was arrested by the FBI officials on September 17, 2020, and accused in federal court in Chicago of producing child porn.
According to the police officials, Harris allegedly acknowledged requesting and receiving graphic messages on Snapchat from other people he knew were minors, as well as having oral and anal intercourse with a 15-year-old in mid-2019.
Also, Harris has been suspended from at least one company and is on the verge of losing a number of sponsorships. Monica Aldama, Harris’s cheer coach, is believed to have been saddened by his imprisonment.
It was on December 12, 2020, when the reports stated that Harris was facing seven more charges relating to incidents with four other minors between August 2017 and August 2020, including a charge relating to an alleged incident in May 2019 in which Harris traveled from Texas to Florida to have sex with a 15-year-old. Jerry has entered a not guilty plea to the new allegations.
