When Jamie Foxx was just five years old, he began learning to play the piano. He was raised in a fundamentalist Baptist home and worked as a part-time pianist and choir director at Terrell’s New Hope Baptist Church when he was a teenager.
His teacher used his natural gift for delivering jokes as a form of reinforcement for excellent behavior in class even when he was in third grade. Foxx attended Terrell High School, where he was a standout academic performer and a quarterback in both basketball and football.
