Gina Schock is best known for being the drummer and one of the songwriters of The Go-Go’s, arguably the most successful all-female group in the history of rock music, with hit songs including “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “We Got The Beat,” and “Vacation.”
She and the band faced overwhelming odds and sexism in an industry that hadn’t quite accepted that women can rock. Through force of will and hard work, The Go-Go’s overcame these obstacles and made their mark on music.
Is Gina Schock still in the Go Go’s?
Schock was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in October 2021 as a member of The Go-Go’s.
In 1982, the Go-Go’s became the first all-female band to have an album reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart when “Beauty and the Beat” broke the rock ’n’ roll glass ceiling.
That trailblazing first secured the places of bandmates Belinda Carlisle, Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine, Jane Wiedlin, and Gina Schock in music history, which was acknowledged on Oct. 30, when the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
