Former Governor Ed Rendall disclosed in 2018 that he had Parkinson’s disease. He was the 45th Governor of Pennsylvania from 2003 to 2011. He is an American lawyer, prosecutor, politician, and author.
Rendell grew up in New York City with his Russian Jewish family. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and Villanova University School of Law for his undergraduate and law degrees.
When he got elected Mayor of Philadelphia in 1991, he inherited a $250 million deficit and the country’s lowest credit rating. According to the New York Times, under Rendell, Philadelphia “has completed one of the most spectacular turnarounds in recent metropolitan history.”
Ed Rendell Talks Battling Parkinson’s Illness
Former Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell stated in late June 2018 that he had Parkinson’s disease.
Rendell’s decision to make his condition public, together with cutting-edge research and breakthroughs in therapies for Parkinson’s patients, is helping to shed light on what a Parkinson’s diagnosis entails.
A few years ago, the governor went to Penn Medicine with some disturbing symptoms, including tremors, and was quickly diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
While he wasn’t ready to share his story at the time, he did so in 2018 to encourage people to get medical help if they notice early signs of Parkinson’s, gain a better understanding of the disease, and find hope in present treatments and potential advancements.
Governor Rendell described how thorough physical therapy and tailored treatment at Pennsylvania Hospital delayed the progression of his disease, increased his strength and balance, and allowed him to continue doing the work he loves.
But Is Ed Rendell Still Sick?
As there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, specialists such as Penn neurologist Matthew Stern believe that the sooner someone is treated, the better. According to Dr. Stern, Parkinson’s disease can be debilitating for some people, but most individuals respond favorably to treatment.
Governor Rendell went on to say that receiving therapy early on helped him manage his condition. If you experience symptoms, the former governor advises that you be checked out.
According to Penn Medicine experts, if someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, they should seek treatment from a specialist doctor and therapist.
